Here are some of the main type of skin diseases that can occur, these diseases when not treated can result in more inflammation or skin cancers.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. It is not contagious, but it can cause great discomfort. Symptoms include red scaly patches on the skin, itchiness and flaking of the skin. It can also affect the nails and may be associated with arthritis. Psoriasis is not currently curable but can be well controlled with medication.

Eczema

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition that usually begins in childhood. It is a chronic, inherited, inflammatory skin condition that is not contagious. The affected skin is dry, red and itchy and sometimes these areas can become cracked, weepy and then scab over.

Acne

Acne, or acne vulgaris, is an inflammatory skin condition. It is very common, with over 85 per cent of 16-18 year olds affected, although it may occur in children and adults. Acne can vary in severity from a few pimples to many and can cover the face, neck, chest, and back. Pimples are classified as either inflammatory lesions, or non inflammatory lesions, called comedones

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin disorder that causes red patches, ‘pimples’, bumps and ‘burst’ capillaries on the face. The most commonly affected areas are the nose and cheeks (central face), but it can affect the whole face, including the ears and neck. It is not-contagious

Melasma

Melasma is a chronic skin condition which causes symmetrical, blotchy brown to grey brown patches on the face. Most people get it on their cheeks, bridge of their nose, forehead, chin, and above their upper lip. It also can appear on other parts of the body that get lots of sun, such as the forearms and neck. It is usually more noticeable in the summer and improves during the winter months.

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia. Skin cancer is a disease of the body’s skin cells caused mainly by cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun. Cancer is a group of diseases in which cells are aggressive (grow and divide without respect to normal limits), invasive (invade and destroy adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastatic (spread to other locations in the body. Precancerous Sun Spots

Sun spots, known as actinic keratosis or solar keratosis, are precancerous spots that occur on skin that has been sun damaged. They may be light or dark, tan, pink, red, a combination of these, or skin-colour. They vary in size and can be raised or flat. The scale or crust is horn-like, dry, and rough, and is often recognised easier by touch than sight. They have the potential to change in to a skin cancer. Our team would advise you about the medical treatment options for this condition. This includes but not limited to freezing, Field therapy with superficial chemotherapy and state of the art Metvix cream and PDT (light therapy).

Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating (hyperyidrosis) is when you sweat more than you might expect based on the surrounding temperature or your activity level or stress. Excessive sweating can disrupt daily activities and cause social anxiety or embarrassment. We are confident to assess this condition and offer you a tailored treatment plan from oral medications to injectables and local therapy with the latest technologies.

Contact Dermatitis

Contact Dermatitis occurs as a result of a reaction to something that has touched the skin, causing the skin to be itchy, red and inflamed. Symptoms vary on the severity of the reaction, or how sensitive you are to the substance which is causing the rash. Regardless of the cause, our medical team are happy to assess and assist you with the treatment.

Scars are the result of the skin’s repair of wounds caused by accident, disease, or surgery. This is a natural part of the healing process. There are several different types of scar. We offer various treatments to reduce the appearance of scarring.
